Idea for use of a Blog

One of my colleagues had this wonderful idea of using Blogs to connect her students to each other. Many itinerant students are the only deaf or hard of hearing student their school. Isolation is a theme I consisitently hear as I move across this country.

I am definitely going to start a blog for student to safely connect to each other. If anyone else has already done this and can share the blog address, let's get kids connected to each other. They can be each other's greatest teachers. We all know how much they believe US when we say, "you are not the only person in the world who _________ ( has to wear an f.m, use a note taker......)

Hearing Impairment in the Classroom

I have recieved many requests over the years to share different materials I have created to use with mainstream schools. Most recently I recieved a request about inservices for Mainstream Teachers. Attached is a link to the Power Point that I use. The discussion that goes along with it is tailored to the audience. Hope this is helpful!

Link to a Great Site

A wonderful use of technology is a site called deafed.net. This site's goal is to join Educators of Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing from all over the world. Check it out!
You can find jobs, grant opportunities, as well as many teaching ideas!

Deaf Educator continuing to learn........

Here I sit in a workshop learning about blogs and subscribing in google reader. We are learning about subscribing to blogs, articles etc. I searched for articles on Deaf Education.

I quickly found a link to a group of college students who were discussing what they had learned in their course of study via a blog! This whole world is mind blowing.

Educators of children who are D/HOH need to open themselves to this world. Teaching reading and writing is our greatest challenge. We struggle to find reading that is of interest and at appropriate reading levels. Imagine linking kids to each other via blogs. The content would be of interest, and at the appropriate level. We have seen that the entire web IS the teacher. The traditional teacher standing in front of the classroom no longer holds all the answers! The person in the front of the room must become a knowledge seeking facilitator!!

Our kids have so much access to an amazing world of technology! We must stop teaching only content. We must teach them how to use technology to access information!!
